Open letter to Iggy Azalea and Britney Spears

Dear Iggy Azalea and Britney Spears,

Thank you for writing the deepest song I have ever heard. “Pretty Girls” is truly thought-provoking.

I have written down some notes on your lyrical masterpiece, which you can view below.

“All around the world, pretty girls
Wipe the floor with all the boys”

My note:

I love your subtle jab at Afrikaans people who say things like, “Don’t throw me with a pencil!”

“Pour the drinks, bring the noise
(It’s Iggy-Iggs!)
We’re just so pretty!”

My note:

Who is this Iggy-Iggs? A philosopher? She be so smart, yo!

“All around the world, pretty girls
Jump the line, to the front
Do what we like, get what we want
(Where you at, Brit?)
We’re just so pretty!”

My note:

Yes, where is Brit? Because the last time I saw her was in 2000 when she still had a career.

“Hey, don’t you know that it’s always the same?
From Australia ’round to LA
You can betcha’, wherever the girls go, boys follow
We be keeping them up on their toes
They can laugh, but they don’t get the jokes
Just you watch, they’re so predictable
(Some things don’t change…)”

My note:

What I find the most inspiring about this part of the song, is that Iggy believes that boys will follow her to Australia. The only boys who will follow you to Australia are the ones who have had enough of “South Africa’s horrible crime”, but secretly lie awake at night crying about biltong.

“(The girls roll up)
Windows roll down
(Eyes on us)
Jaws on the ground
(Watch them go)
It’s just so funny
(Like bees to the honey!)”

My note:

Wow, such beautiful metaphors in this verse. I love that they compare the female body to honey, it truly makes me proud that this is 2015 and not 1792.

“Tell me, is it true that these men are from Mars?
Is that why they be acting bizarre?
Every time I walk out of my house it’s like, “Hey, baby!”
They don’t see me rolling my eyes
They buzzing around me like flies
They got one thing on their minds
(Some things don’t change…)”

My note:

Men are the worst. They only think about sex 90% of the time, that’s why they didn’t invent things like the light bulb, Macintosh computer and Internet. Ugh, they’re so stupid.

“If you ask me, I’m killing them softly
I would spend time with you but that’d cost me
They pray that Iggy-Iggy give ’em one more chance
But busy Iggy wouldn’t even give ’em one more glance
See, enter in line between the beauty and a beast
Slim waist, thick cake, the whole world want a piece
Bad girl, good (ooh) would make you lose your mind
All of the boys begging Britney, hit ’em one more time

My note:

This truly is the pinnacle of this incredible song. It’s so nice to know that all it takes to make it in life is a thick cake and slim waist. Tonight when I go home, I’m going to burn all my qualifications.

I hope you enjoyed my notes as much as I enjoyed listening to your music. Thank you for once again writing a song that I would proudly play for my daughter one day.

Was wondering why you only commented on the first part of the song, then I listened & realised thats all they sing…on repeat. Just so pretty!

Scathing sarcasm! Buhahahaha! I doubt they would get this though. Honestly I doubt it.

unfortunately this inspiring song has yet to grace my eardrums… I really love how Iggy tries to make Britney feel good by dropping a reference to her all-time best – Hit Me Baby One More Time. That was super nice of her.
