Bold brows, smokey eyes & ’60s glam with Almay

The older I get, the more I care about my brows. When I was younger, my brows were younger too. They were young, wild and free. Fast forward 10 years and now my brows, much like me, like to party every now and then, but ultimately what makes them the happiest is staying home and watching Netflix whilst eating avo on toast. Okay, maybe that's more me than them. But still, my brows have evolved with time and so have my makeup needs. I now find myself toning down the rest of my makeup to let my brows do the talking, and sometimes it's the only thing I have time for in the mornings before heading out for work. As a...

Almay Lip Vibes Review

The team at Almay sent me their latest lipstick range, Almay Lip Vibes, for this sponsored review.  So let's talk about the name of the range: Lip Vibes. I wonder if it was named by a South African? VIBES, my bru! This collection is absolutely gorgeous though - the packaging takes me back to my balmy holiday in Brazil.  The Almay Lip Vibes range consists of 24 pretty lippies with awesome names such as “Skip The Gym”, “Rise Up”, “Live Happy”, “Love Big”, “Eat Cake” and “Be Strong”. All of these give better advice than me!  You can choose from three unique finishes: Matte, Crème and Toppers. My favourite lipstick in the range is, without any doubt, Eat Cake. ...

The Baths in Citrusdal: A Review

The Cederberg is filled with magnificent getaway spots for every kind of traveller. I have done camping at Beaverlac, glamping at Wolfkop and most recently; a luxurious 2-night stay at The Baths. Best weekend. A post shared by Anja Wintour (@anjawintour) on Jan 29, 2017 at 8:56am PST If you’re looking for an easy, peaceful and affordable getaway from the city - Wolfkop is the spot for you. All the tents come pre-packed with everything you need (including some crickets and spiders), all you need to bring is food and clothes. By day you can rent canoes and swim in the river and at night you can rest in absolute bliss, there is no music allowed here and by 22:00 everyone is...

What To Expect From Dating A Surfer

Growing up, I spent almost every weekend on the West Coast in Yzerfontein. I absolutely love the ocean and a great chunk of my childhood was spent either swimming in the deathly cold waters of the West Coast, building sand castles, catching klipvissies or as I grew older - tanning and reading on the beach. I am a summer baby through and through. There is no place I am happier than by the ocean. Imagine my joy when I discovered that the guy I was into surfs and is always keen to take me to the beach...

27 Things About Me

I am turning 27 today, so I have decided to tell you 27 things about me. Some of this I may have told you already - forgive my memory. I am an old woman now. 1. I only started liking avo a month ago I always thought it was just expensive snot. 2. I am an introvert I wrote about being an INFJ a few years ago. Apparently, one's personality can actually change as you mature, and it is possible to go from being an extrovert to being an introvert, and vice versa. I am still 100% an introvert. The only thing that makes me happier than having no plans, is having cancelled plans. 3. I once got a stitch from eating too much pizza My whole...

Being In My Late Twenties

I turn 27 on 11 April. Recently, while I was on holiday in the Cederberg, a boy kept calling me “Tannie”. These days I get more wedding invites than Facebook friend requests. Every now and then I discover a rogue grey hair and I convince myself it is just a very special highlight. I am officially in my late twenties. This is a very interesting period in my life, because I am just as much a giant child as I am a responsible adult. I find my shopping cart filled with veggies and sugar-free products, but also viennas and Rainbow Crunchies. These days I'd rather spend money on Beroccas than Bacardis, and I absolutely detest wasting a day because I drank the...

How To Go To New York

I have been putting this article off for weeks. Partially because I haven’t had the time, but mainly because I didn’t want to look at my New York photos again. I enjoyed my trip so much that my photos make me sad. Yes, I know. That makes no sense. I decided to title this blog “How To Go To New York” because a lot of you asked me about my flights and accommodation. I also wanted to prove that New York is not as unattainable for South Africans as we may think. If New York is on your bucket list, I really hope this article will help you to get there in 2018! How to get your visa Everyone told me scary stories...

Whimsical

Look at me keeping my promise to blog more! This look was shot ages ago with photographer, Zel Archer, and make-up artist, Cat Terblanche. I meant to upload it sooner, but then life happened. BUT HERE IT IS! YAY! I’m wearing a whimsical tulle skirt by local designer, Olga-Maré. This skirt made me feel like I was 6 and 26 at the same time. It’s so gorgeous. I teamed it with a crisp white shirt from the Woolworths David Jones collection, which I have fallen in love with. I bought a few David Jones pieces at the beginning of winter and I’m so happy with the quality and aesthetic of it. I finished the look off with jewellery from Black Betty and...

Coffee Date

I can't believe that I went through 22 years without coffee. At school I used to pull my nose up at it - only drinking a cup every now and then in winter. During my varsity years I started buying coffee at the cafeteria to fuel me after late nights working on projects, or partying. But even then it wasn't really because I liked the taste - just because I needed the kick.   Then I started working in the CBD, and House of Machines was just across the road from my office. And with that the coffee addiction started.   My mom and I recently went to Pretoria to visit my family, and I made her stop at coffee shops every morning so...

Breath Of Blue

At the beginning of this year I vowed to go back to doing all the things I love, and one of them is working with fellow creatives to make life more colourful. So I called up two of my favourite people in the industry for a photoshoot, and spoke to up-and-coming designer Janu Steyn about wearing one of his gowns. He gave me the most breathtaking royal blue gown with intricate detail across the chest and a line of buttons down the back. Zel Archer came onboard as photographer, and Cat Terblanche as hair-and-makeup artist. I’ve worked with them a lot in the past and I absolutely love their dynamic. They’re some of the kindest people I know, and together their presence is...
